Level 3 DISP Membership FAQs

Common Questions

Common questions about Level 3 DISP Membership

The cost varies significantly depending on the organisation’s current security posture and the extent of measures required to bridge the compliance gap to meet DISP Level 3 standards. Expenses can include, but are not limited to, IT upgrades (licensing, servers, migrations, implementation), physical security infrastructure upgrades (locks, safes, access controls, audit and certification etc.), employee training, and regular compliance audits.

Some of the larges costs include certification of IT or Physical security, which tend to increase with company size and complexity (eg. operating nationally across multiple sites vs single site).

In our experience, companies should be prepared for initial expenditure upwards of $180,000 even for smaller organisations.

While DISP Level 3 itself does not offer direct financial incentives, SMEs may find that compliance enhances their competitive edge and eligibility for government contracts, which can indirectly lead to financial growth and stability.

However, DISP Co would discourage any firms that lack experience or active contracts with Defence from applying for DISP Level 3. Companies must seriously evaluate the commercial viability, implementation and ongoing costs prior to pursuing this high level of compliance.

Many firms seek Level 3 DISP to allow self-sponsorship up to NV-2, in which case there are pathways to reducing costs. Contact our team to evaluate options.
